Pale Straw with green hues. Orange blossom, lemon zest, notes of white peach with underlying jasmine flower and a mineral accent. This wine has dense layers of fresh citrus and stone fruit along with floral notes and perfect acidity. The wine is fine and delicate with a persistent finish along with stunning minerality.
History shows that Thomas Hardy first blended grapes from multiple regions in 1865. Hardy believed that blending grapes with different characteristics would complement and enhance the qualities of each region. So began Hardy’s rich blending heritage; with each new blend a unique code was created starting from A001. For this vintage of HRB Riesling, fruit was sourced from premium vineyards in Clare Valley and Tasmanian viticultural regions. Displaying the best of both regionals, this Riesling blends the fine lemon/lime and mineral tightness of Clare valley fruit with the expressive stone fruit flavours of Tasmania. The resulting blend creates a balanced wine that expresses lifted citrus fruit tones over a lengthening mineral and acid structure that draws you in for another juicy sip. 2020 was a wetter and cooler than average year in Tasmania with lower than average crop sizes provided a long ripening season. Clare was similar to Tasmania in that crops were down but quality was up with spring frosts and dry conditions for a third year running as the cause. Rieslings this year show great citrus fruit concentration and elevated mineral characters.
92 Point Rated, Mike Bennie Halliday Wine Companion
A combination of Clare Valley and Tasmania riesling sources. The bin number for this release is D703, for those interested. It's got great flavour, good concentration, a frisky saline-meets-lime acid profile, feels super fragrant and combines mixed citrus, green apple, faint nectarine notes and a dash of sweet herbal lift. It feels racy but also offers depth and a touch of fruity sweetness that feels easy drinking and appealing. Comely white wine on the cards.
