Tasting Notes:

Aromas of dark cherries, plum and licorice. It’s a seductive nose enticing you in for the initial taste.
Full bodied Heathcote Shiraz at its finest with ripe black berries, plum, aniseed and dark chocolate all obvious features on the palate. Some earthy character and a firm tannin backbone are also evident although have harmonized well with time in bottle to combine with the fruit flavours and provide a plushness on the enduring finish.

Technical:

Sourced from the oldest vines on the estate, we bunch thin and then hand-picked fruit at optimum ripeness. The fruit was destemmed with 10% whole bunch fermentation. Post ferment the wine was transferred into French and American oak for a period of 16 months then was bottled with minimal fining or filtration. Extending bottle aging prior to release ensured drinkability upon release.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Alan from Nicely balanced, good value but tastes younger. I enjoy aged shiraz and like Heathcote reds. The Iconic is definitely Heathcote with hints of eucalyptus and sweet smoke in the aroma and a well balanced overall flavour, but simply doesn't taste like it's 10 years old. The guesstimate of half a dozen tasters was 2021 vintage, it seems screwtops really keep the wines fresh. Still good value.

Not really iconic Heathcote richness, but very nice for sure. Not at all what I expected, something a bit different. Eucalyptusy from the get go unlike a lot of reds that develop it after some airtime.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ibby from Classic Heathcote aged Shiraz Dark ruby with brownish to clear rim. Nose has more secondary characters, tobacco,& leather, mixed in with some dark plum and black pepper. Palate shows spicy dark berries, dark chocolate and more pepper notes. Finish is medium long with drying tannins, 14.5% Alc/Vol with wcrewcap closure and good legs, there is still life in the beast yet. The other 11 (of the $150/dozen) will sleep and improve over the next 15-20 years. Served with Bemm River Men's Shed crumbed venison schnitzel with homemade mushroom, garlic and pepper sauce, accompanied by fresh homegrown broccoli sprigs, new potatoes and peas and corn, drizzled with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Struggled with the lemon juice initially, as almost all red wines do, but came into its own later on. Lovely!
