Lifted floral notes, white peach and a touch of yellow nectarine are entwined with a hint of cashew. The stone fruits continue onto the palate with green melon and citrus notes. The slatey acidity and hint of pithy phenolics provide a lovely texture and drive to the wine.
Reduced yields from the 2022 harvest were the result of poor fruit set due to a cold spring. This turned out to be a blessing, with a cool summer pushing the majority of our harvest into the last week of March and early April. Ripening of the small berries and bunches was long and slow which has resulted in wines with intense flavour, concentration and structure.
This Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from the Piccadilly Valley sub-region of the Adelaide Hills, home of Ashton Hills. The Piccadilly Valley is the coldest and wettest part of the region, ideal growing conditions for Chardonnay. Ferment was sparked by indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in a combination of new and used French oak for nine months.

"Pale straw, bright in the glass. Fragrant aromas of white lily, citrus pith, nectarine, wet stone and nuts. Fine and focused on the palate: there’s a very pure drive of citrus and stone fruit along with a nutty minerality. The acidity has real ping and zip and there’s a nice touch of phenolics on the finish bringing texture and mouth-feel."

"I wouldn’t say that there are fireworks here but it’s a handy chardonnay, and a good one. Apple, nashi pear, nectarine and florals meet fragrant herbs, steel, custard powder and (subtle) cedar. It’s refreshing, light-ish and long. It’s good to go now but another year or so in bottle would hurt."

"A stark departure from anything I've ever tasted here. Mid-weighted, resinous, gently oxidative and reminiscent of an edgy regime from Burgundy satellites. Walnut husk, camomile, almond meal and orange blossom. Perhaps some stone fruit pithiness, but there is little obvious fruit. The oak feels unresolved and a bit stale. But there are phenolics as much as freshness. Savouriness over sweetness, and an intriguing eccentricity about it all, which I like. Time may work wonders."
