Lifted and vibrant aromas of red fruits and red roses, as well as a hint of potpourri. Red fruits are certainly the theme on the palate too, with a nice tension keeping things tight and bright.
From a beautiful north facing 1.7 ha vineyard in the heart of Red Hill. Merron’s Vineyard is our most elevated and coolest Pinot Noir vineyard site. Merron’s Pinot Noir is vibrant with red cherry and cranberry and lush red roses. As always with this vineyard, there are some strong masculine tannins providing palate support, but the fruit carries them with aplomb, with cherry red fruits in abundance.
96 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Deep red/purple colour with a complex, foresty bouquet which suggests a fair bit of whole-bunch ferment. The palate is full and ample, sweetly ripe, rounded and generous. It fills all corners of the mouth. The tannins are fine and soft. Almost opulent in its roundness and amplitude. Lovely wine. I like the balance of whole-bunch here: it adds an etxra dimension without being too dominant."
94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"From a 1.7ha vineyard in the heart of Red Hill, matured in French barriques (16% new) for 8 months maturation. Good colour; an interesting wine, its waves of flavours ebbing and flowing. The aftertaste reveals a crosscut of stem and red berry fruits, the overall length good, the finish juicy."
92 Point Rated - Campbell Mattison The Wine Front
"From a vineyard planted in 1998 at Red Hill. North-east aspect. Firm, bright, perfumed and powerful. Macerated cherries meet sweet spice, cedarwood oak notes meet choc-orange. Tannin is laid in strong, tight sheets. It’s one of those wines where everything feels in right and proper place, but it somehow seems to lack x-factor; it’s a hard thing to put a finger on. Perhaps time will bring charm."
