The wine is a luminous crimson with a ruby hue and has an immediately appealing, lifted bouquet of red & blue fruits, complemented by notes of vanilla, cinnamon & liquorice. Medium-bodied in weight, with a smooth, silky mouthfeel & bountiful berry fruit flavours. Tannins are very fine; the finish persistent, balanced & satisfying. A fine match to lamb shanks with olives & red wine, or herbed stuffed Portobello mushrooms.
A challenging vintage but the viticulture team was able to deal very effectively with the issues through meticulous canopy management & judicious use of organically approved sprays, meaning quality remained strong. The fruit was sourced from our Wilyabrup vineyard, our Metricup site & our Karridale vineyard, all of which are certified sustainable, between 17th March to 7th April 2021
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (81.6%), Merlot (10.5%), Shiraz (4.7%), Malbec (1.5%), Petit Verdot (1.3%) & Cabernet Franc (0.4%). All the varieties were fermented separately in a mix of open & closed fermenters & spent between eight to 21 days on skins. Further aging in oak in separate batches took place until blending. Aged for a minimum of 12 months in both French barriques (90%) & hogsheads (10%) of which 5% were new.

This shows aromas of black beans, blackberries, tobacco leaves and iron. Savoury and peppery with a medium to full body, lightly chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.

Lifted notes of raspberries, lead pencil shavings and bay leaves on the nose. The palate is awash with red and black berries and savoury highlights. Sleek and sultry tannins offer a framework on this finely styled red. It's very drinkable.
