Tasting Notes:

Complex bouquet of red fruits, raisins and clear hints of marasca cherry. In the mouth it develops all its arrogance, its body is captivating, mature and enhanced especially by its aging in barrique. Primitivo Appassimento Rinforzato is a wine which remains in your memory for its strong character and great personality.

Technical:

Its style has been defined and refined step by step by the three senior Winemakers of Giordano Vini who have passionately dedicated the last years to study the noble Primitivo vine variety. Their aim was to create an important wine, traditional yet innovative, by removing its harshness as much as possible in order to get a strong structure but without asperity. With 2015 grape harvest they nally achieved their aim. Ripe grapes of the prestigious Primitivo vine variety have not been harvested. They were left on the vine so that their ripening could go on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by the wine guy from A classy Italian! We holidayed in Rome recently and enjoyed sampling the local wines. This smooth and flavour-filled red takes us back there! Soft, not too sweet, with plenty of bouquet and a lovely finish. Bellissimo!

Made with the Appassimento technique, which means that the grapes are left to over-ripen on the vine, the first impression is of a raisiney sweetness. But it's worth persisting, because beyond that the wine opens up to deliver amazing strength, depth and complexity. Flavours of plum, morello cherry and dark fruits play in your mouth and linger, and there's a lovely savoury finish. Unlike many Italian wines, it stands up well on its own without food, but it will compliment strong cheese and antipasti very well. This wine isn't for everyone - some people can't get past the sweet beginning - but it's worth persisting with.
