Tasting Notes:

Striking Red The Broken Shovel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019

Striking Red Pinot Noir exhibits fragrant bright redcurrant, wild thyme and spice aromatics that lead to an elegantly textured wine. The palate shows great finesse, poise and drive with complex mouth filling, fine grained tannins, ideally suited for those that enjoy a good Central Otago Pinot Noir with food.

Bare Necessities Shiraz 2022

Deep red in colour with touches of purple. Ripe red and black berry and plum fruit aromas and subtle notes of warm spice. On the palate rich ripe black berries and plums provide the drive behind this wine while fine soft smooth tannins and a touch of natural fruit acid add further complexity.

Kopparossa Coonawarra Reserve Shiraz 2019

Deep, earthy red with purple and plum coloured hues. Toasty, spicy, cherry plum, chocolate with a hint of mint. Velvety, ripe fleshy cherry fruit flavours with a lingering astringency- from firm supple grape and oak tannins. Still a youthful wine that will develop into a bigger, richer, complex individual, as time goes on.

Montara Homeblock Cabernet Merlot 2016

From Victoria's Montara Wines comes this no-nonsense, flavoursome Cabernet Merlot under their Homeblock Estate label. A good example of a red with a little bit of age. Mid red with a brick hue. Restrained aromas of plum, cedar and earth. Quite gentle and easy-drinking with juicy layers of mulberry, plum, black olive and cedar, softening tannins, earthy complexity from time in bottle, and a dry finish.

Clare Hills Clare Valley Shiraz Malbec 2021 By Pikes

Medium to dark cherry red. Black cherry, cassis, mulberry and black forest cake aromas swirl around the glass, flecks of charry oak too. The palate weight is ripe, round and soft, but nicely poised. Fantastic concentration of black and blue fruits. Finely textured tannin profile provides length and complexity.

Niche Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Crimson with magenta/purple hues. Classic, varietal aromas of cassis with some choc-mint all work seamlessly with plums and soft oak undertones. A medium bodied wine with a rounded fruit driven palate that features rich, round velvety tannins, with plum, cassis and cherry flavours whilst the oak is soft and just a passenger.

Technical:

Striking Red The Broken Shovel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019

This vibrant fruit driven Central Otago Pinot Noir is crafted from grapes grown on the glacial terraces in the Upper Clutha Valley  of Central Otago, one of the southernmost winegrowing regions in the world. The vines are intensively managed by hand to achieve perfectly ripe fruit for winemaking. All grapes are carefully harvested by hand with only the best fruit going to the winery.

Bare Necessities Shiraz 2022

The fruit was sourced from select vineyards across Langhorne Creek sub region of South Australia and picked in the cool of night. Fermentation took place with some skin contact in static potters and rotary fermenters for a period of seven days to retain a high level of fruit flavour. Warm temperatures during fermentation along with post ferment maceration helped build the fruit and tannin profile. Following the pressing process, clarification and final blending the fruit was matured with select parcels having contact with mature oak to soften the palate.

Clare Hills Clare Valley Shiraz Malbec 2021 By Pikes

Good winter rain allowed soil profiles to be full, giving the vines a great start to the growing season. A remarkably cool summer followed, providing perfect conditions for healthy balanced vines. The long ripening period produce fruit with a perfect balance of good colour, high natural acidity, and concentrated flavours.

Niche Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

The fruit was picked in the cool of night then fermented on skins in static potters and rotary fermenters for a period of six days to create a good balance between extracting the appropriate tannin for wine structure and retaining fruit drive and aromatics. Following the pressing process, clarification and final blending the fruit was matured with select parcels having contact with old French oak.
