More compelling evidence that Shiraz really is not the poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks in the Coonawarra region. This is from a terra rossa vineyard and the grapes have undergone a light crushing before the juice then spends eight days in fermentation before a gentle pressing. 30% is matured in 2nd fill American oak hogsheads. Red/purple in colour, on a very perfumed nose we have pleasing notes of red cherries, spices, florals and raspberries. Nicely balanced and with excellent length, this finishes with soft yet abundant tannins. The oak is very well handled. The wine lifts on the palate as more flavours emerge from their shell. Delicious now but will drink well over the next five to ten years.

"A lovely vibrant classic Coonawarra cabernet, dark crimson in colour with purple hues and with brooding rich fruit characters, plenty of oak and nice level of tannins."

96 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"Offering fruit purity and power, the wine shows crème de cassis, violet, cedar, subtle tobacco and mixed spice aromas on the nose, leading to a gracefully rich palate offering firm structure and harmony. Wonderfully styled and expressive with a lengthy sturdy finish. At its best: 2023 to 2035. April 2022."

Curtis Family Martins Vineyard Limited McLaren Vale Shiraz 2020
97 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"This is gloriously rich and enticing with blackberry, warm spice, tapenade and cedary oak characters on the nose. The palate is equally impressive, displaying outstanding weight and power combined with velvety mouthfeel, finishing superbly long and delicious. At its best: now to 2040. $150.00"

96 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot
"This wine is part of a limited series of McLaren Vale Shiraz and for me, perhaps the most impressive in the range – which is saying something as it has plenty of competition. Vibrant purple in colour, this offers a lovely seductive nose, which is deeply flavoured with blackberry notes, plums, boot leather, bergamot, black cherries and spices. Hints of oak but melding well. Dense in structure though well balanced at all times, this is very long and has satiny tannins in abundance. It should sail through a decade in the cellar, though is drinking well now. Simply a cracking McLaren Vale Shiraz. Price: $150.00; Alcohol: 14.5%"

96 Point Rated - Patrick Eckel
"This is a classy McLaren Vale Shiraz and seems to defy what was more of a challenging vintage. The nose shows brooding dark plum and blackberry fruit that is amply supported by a swathe of brown spices and dark chocolate.
The impact of incredible quality oak in undeniable on the nose, however the way it folds into the textured plum and black cherry fruit on the palate is seamless; tannins are fine and firm as is the acidity but in near perfect balance with the drive and influence of the fruit. The finish has a touch of leather to textured black fruits and lingering spice. Will live a long time."

"Deep and dark hue, this is an energetic style, overflowing with attractive freshness. In the glass, a combination of chocolate, dark berries, cherries, florals, dry herbs, and coffee beans. Sleek and supple texture, there is a hint of espresso bitterness on the very finish. Silky tannins are carried by impressive length and excellent balance. This has a most promising future over the next decade and the score should rise during that time."

"An appealing, rich style of Barossa Shiraz, with a rather immodest 15.3% alcohol, though the balance seems to make that near invisible. Chocolate, red fruits, smoked meats, spices, aniseed and florals. This is a ripe style with an attractive, supple texture with fine velvety tannins and impressive length. Enjoy this any time over the next eight years."

"The Hobbsys have done very well indeed here, from the excellent '21 vintage. It's made in the amarone/appassimento style; so semi-drying of the grapes on racks, wild ferment follows. There is often a density and broodiness to such styles. Not so here, as there is some lovely detail to the ripe dark and black plum and berry fruits with shades of spice box, dates, dark and milk chocolate, veal jus, glazed black cherries and earth. It's a lovely drink."

"A gorgeous rendition of the variety, showing blackcurrant, cedary oak, dried herb and toasted spice aromas, followed by a finely expressed palate that's succulent and supple. Wonderfully framed by layers of chalky tannins, finishing harmonious and persistent. At its best: now to 2036. $130.00."

Chaffey Bros Omnia Nova Barossa Nouveau Old Vine Syrah 2021
92 Point Rated - Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion
"A medium bodied, deliciously plush mashup of syrah from the Eden and Barossa Valleys, 17% whole bunches contributing exotic spice, amaro herbs and a touch of sinew to the tannin frame. Despite eight months in seasoned barrel, oak plays no major role in this wine and fruit and spice reign supreme, tending savoury on the persistent finish."

92 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
"Omnia Nova – all become new – is old vine Barossa shiraz made in a ‘nouveau’ style. It spends a brief stint in oak before promptly going into bottle and into the world.
It has that ‘just made’ feel to it. It’s like tasting direct from a barrel/tank at a winery; it has that uber freshness, that ribald fruitiness, that blinding immediacy. It’s a wonderful impression for a wine to make. Plums, cloves, mints and assorted sweet spice characters make for a high energy, highly delicious red wine. Yes please. It’s a great drink. ‘Nuff said.

92 Point Rated - James Suckling
" A peppery and energetic shiraz with notes of peppercorns, fresh blackberries, thyme and bay leaves. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity and fine tannins providing a fresh and precise frame."

91 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Very deep, dense purple/red colour. An extreme bouquet of super-concentrated fruit, black plum and blackberry with a smoky nutty overlay, the palate also very concentrated and bold, a bit raw to drink now, with lashings of tannin and mouth-coating properties. This will turn out very well, it just needs more time."

Kilikanoon Omen Shiraz 2017
97 Point Rated & 5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"This is graciously rich and sensually appealing with blackberry, toasted spice, tar, anise and roasted nut aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that's packed with lavish texture and layers of velvety tannins. Engaging and symphonic with a prolonged, gratifying finish. At its best: now to 2040. $150.00. April 2024."

"Richly ripe and inviting with dark plum, raspberry, rich floral, vanilla and hazelnut aromas, it's succulent and weighty in the mouth with silky texture and polished tannins. The wine is fruit forward with spicy undertones, displaying generous, supple mouthfeel with a beautiful rounded finish. At its best: now to 2033."
