The 2012 Leydens Vale Chardonnay is pale green in colour with classic aromas of nectarine, yeast and a hint of oak. The palate displays the early picked elegant style with peach fruit up front, a creamy rich mid palate from yeast lees stirring, a touch of cedary oak and a long crisp minerally acid finish. Try it served chilled with any seafood or chicken dishes.
The Leydens Vale series of wines takes their name from John Leyden, one of the original land holders in the Pyrenees region of central western Victoria in the 1890’s. Chardonnay is generally recognized as the worlds widest planted white wine grape variety because it grows so well and produces great wine in many viticultural districts. The Pyrenees of Western Victoria is one such district where the cool nights and warm days help the vine thrive and produce a uniquely subtle flavoured wine. The 2012 growing season was near perfect for all varieties with regular rains during a cool spring & summer, plus a warm dry autumn finish which allowed healthy vine canopy growth, important for development of shade, flavour and ripeness.
