Tasting Notes:

Roaring Meg Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is punchy on the nose with aromas of passionfruit and ripe pineapple. The palate is vibrant with flavours of pink grapefruit and crisp granny smith apple. This is a bright, fresh and varietal Sauvignon Blanc that is ideal for summer drinking. The fruit was handled gently during processing to avoid oxidation, gently pressed and racked clean. The wine fermented very slowly in stainless steel, to dryness. These practices are employed to retain the maximum varietal fruit character of Sauvignon Blanc.

Technical:

The 2023 growing season was a return to the enviable, lower stress conditions that Central Otago is famous for. We started with a warm spring, which gave the vines a good start. January was cooler and wetter, which replenished the soils and slowed growth, giving small, intensely flavoured grapes. By the time the beginning of harvest rolled around, we were just ahead of our long term average in terms of rate of ripening, and with fruit in fantastic condition. Yields were thankfully back to average in most areas, with only Bannockburn cropping slightly lower. This has given wines with excellent flavour and structure. We picked the fruit at the beginning of April, around the normal time for our harvest.

Accolades & Awards:

90 Point Rated - Stephen Wong The Real Review

"Restrained, mineral nose with some mild reduction, sea shells and subtle lemony flavours. The acidity is high, vibrant and has a chalky, almost creamy texture. Dry and crunchy with a mild smoky minerality. Clean and crisp with moderate concentration of flavour but plenty of back-palate complexity. An interesting and more winemaking-driven style. Food friendly. Some length on the finish too"

Bob Campbell MW The Real Review

"Light, fresh sauvignon with grapefruit, oyster shell, white flowers, lemon curd and pineapple flavours. Simple, appealing wine with attractive fruity acidity, A real crowd-pleaser."
