Tasting Notes:

The Foundstone Unoaked Chardonnay is an appealing fruit driven wine that has aromas of candied lemon, lime and honeydew melon. The palate is a fusion of sweet citrus peardrop and ripe melon flavours that continue to a long and zesty finish.

Technical:

Berton Vineyards was established in 1996 by Bob and Cherie Berton when they purchased a block of land in High Eden, a subregion of the Barossa Valley, South Australia. This idyllic property sits 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills - except for the Chardonnay block which is anything but gentle!!

The first wines that we ever made were released under this label, so these wines are very special to us. Now, years later, we still take pride in selecting our fruit from the same vineyards and producing wines that are consistently full of flavour and made so they are ready to drink now.

This is an unoaked version and for those who have been members of the ABC club, this is a good chardonnay to get you back on the horse. Very refreshing, dry, minerally, but with excellent fruit, this is perfect as an apperitif or dinner wine.

Excellent value in the "buy a case get one free" range and such an easy drinking chardy. . . The lack of oak really allows the grape to shine through and sometimes too much oak can be a bit daunting for young, first-time Chardonnay drinkers. . . Would certainly recommend this wine to those who are a bit over the "Savvy" inundation . . .

Others said that they were used to better Chardonnays. It wasn't up to the usual standard they expect from me - maybe because this was the first time I'd offered an "unoaked" Chardonnay and the taste was a new and unaccustomed one. In the end, because of this, I ended up giving the wine away to organistaions with which I am involved so that they could raffle them and make a bit of money.
