Tasting Notes:

Rich red and black fruits fill the mouth. Raspberry, red currant and plum fruits are balanced with fine sandy tannins and cedar oak. This medium to full bodied wine shows a lovely balance and style in true Church Block character.

Technical:

Church Block was the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (est. 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirra's century old ironstone cellars. Over four decades, the Church Block label has become an Australian favourite.

Accolades & Awards:

93 Point Rated-  Huon Hooke The Real Review

Deep ruby colour with purple tinges. The bouquet has savoury and oak-matured characters showing strongly, mocha-coffee and charcuterie, remarkably complex and mellow for its age. A trace of 'eucalypt forest floor'. Full-bodied, rich and fleshy in the mouth, concluding with satisfying length. This is a triumph in its category and price-range.

Highly Rated - Ned Goodwin Mw Halliday Wine Companion

Exceptional value. Still. Economies of scale make it very difficult to make solid wine at this price here. Yet Church Block forges on. The staple of the 1990s BYO precinct of dark fruits, anise, a slip of twiggy oak and florals lives on. Bravo.
