Tasting Notes:

A classic Australian blend, this wine combines the fleshy cherry and plum fruits of Shiraz with the elegant tannins and dark berry flavours of Cabernet Sauvignon with subtle oak nuances and cool climate finesse.

Technical:

The 2013 vintage presented very favourable growing conditions throughout, with few extremes and generally warm, dry conditions. Whilst the day time temperatures were slightly higher than average, the nights remained cool and this was reflected in the high quality of the red fruit in particular. Vibrant flavours evident when sampling in the vineyard carried through to the resulting wines with great natural acidity balanced against the rich bright flavours and the spicy fruit backdrop, indicative of the wines’ cool climate origins.

The Shiraz and Cabernet were both harvested over three days in April providing us with a spread of ripeness throughout the blocks. Once in the winery it was fermented in separate batches, ranging in size from two to ten tonnes, with a range of techniques employed to further increase blending options and complexity in the finished wine. Individual parcels were subjected to a range of processing techniques, with various yeast strains and cap management strategies employed.

The bouquet is inviting, but doesn't prepare you for the explosion of exceptionally intense flavour as the wine enters the mouth; it is almost inevitable that it should back off somewhat on the back-palate, but this is still a very good wine, and a steal at the price.”

One does tend to become suspicious when continually confronted by "failed export orders", but in this case I believe it is a case of a cancelled order.This is a beautifully crafted four year old shiraz blend that should cellar for another four years, at least. Tremendous value for money!
