Tasting Notes:

The flagship from Two Paddocks. An organically grown barrel selection from the estate properties. In 2022 this wine was produced from the four Neill family Central Otago vineyards. These small sites are high-density planted in a range of clonal material cropped to under 5 Tonne per hectare with most vineyard practices carried out by hand. As in the vineyard, the wine is hand crafted using traditional methods including a 46% whole bunch, indigenous fermentation and hand plunging. Maturation is in French barriques for 11 months, using a mix of older and new (18%) barrels. Spring and early summer started off well as temperatures steadily increased and regular rainfall meant soil moisture was high enabling the vines to easily access nutrients, so the vines had strong healthy early growth. February was cooler than typical though with several cold southerly fronts bringing rain, which slowed veraison and seemed to stall what was at that point heading for an early harvest. Then March was far warmer and actually surpassed February for heat accumulation - and an early harvest was back on! Harvest 2022 began on the 24/3/22 and finished on the 26/4/22.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated -  Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"A beguiling nose draws you in, earthy/humus notes, raspberry, spices, berry coulis, wisp of herb, intrigue. Wonderful definition, raspberry, cherry, berryfruit, savoury touches, depth to the fruit expression yet pinosity too. Delightful grainy character flows to super lip-smacking sapidity, flavours hanging in the mouth. Vibrant, refreshing and speaks of potential."

96 Point Rated - Bob Campbell Mw The Real Review
"Rich, concentrated pinot noir with cassis, dark chocolate, ripe berry/blackberry and a smattering of spicy oak. Impressive intensity with fruit smothering ripe tannins and giving a boost to drinkability despite the wine's obvious ageing potential. Very impressive. 2023–2035."

5 Stars Micheal Cooper's Buyer Guide
"Certified organic, the impressive 2022 vintage (5*) was estate-grown at Bannockburn (47 per cent), Alexandra (31 per cent) and Gibbston (22 per cent), and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques (18 per cent new). Full, bright ruby, it is mouthfilling, savoury and supple, with strong, youthful cherry, plum and spice flavours, oak complexity, and excellent depth, vibrancy and harmony. A very ageworthy red, it's well worth cellaring to mid-2025+."
