Beautiful floral and spiced aromatics, bright fruit that fills out into more complex spiced and savoury characteristics, and strong tannins that will ensure longevity.
The 2020 Turkey Flat Grenache is another top line example delivering beautiful floral and spiced aromatics, bright fruit that fills out into more complex spiced and savoury characteristics, and strong tannins that will ensure longevity.
Mark Bulman has made Grenache his signature varietal after taking over full control of winemaking at Turkey Flat in 2010. Under his direction this remains respectful to our past tradition of making Grenache into a fine wine, while moving seamlessly into a more refined, contemporary style. The wine was fermented with 15% whole bunch with half the remaining stems also included in the ferment. Maturation took place in a combination of neutral oak Foudre and neutral oak puncheons. The resulting wine shows beautiful floral and spiced aromatics, bright fruit that fills out into more complex spiced and savoury characteristics, and strong tannins that will ensure longevity.

"Sourced from predominantly 100 year old vines on the Turkey Flat Vineyard. Winemaker Mark Bulman is something of a Grenache enthusiast, and rightly so, because it’s a better grape than Shiraz. If you’d like to hear me talk more rubbish about an assortment of things, you might like to listen to a podcast (The Vincast) I did HERE last September. Can also use Spotify and all those other things. CM and Curly have also had a little talk on the same one, though mine is easily the best, as you’d likely expect me to say. Anyway, this wine brought to mind some comments I made about a movement toward seeing more tannin and structure in Australian wine. So.
This is a serious sort of Grenache, packed with tannin and a meaty reductive character (as a young wine, at least). Cherry pip, raspberry, maybe strawberry, but dry feeling and distinctly not sweet, falling more to hazelnuts and ironstone character. It has a latent rosy perfume tucked in there, concentration with lightness and ‘mineral’ feel, and a long tannic finish. It’s top shelf."

"For this price, it's astounding that the lion's share of the grenache in this wine hails from 100+yo estate-grown vines; we are indeed a lucky country. A vibrant red-fruited aromatic blast with hints of ginger cake, cola, exotic spice, purple flowers and light Turkish delight lift. Juicy and pure, yet with a stony, savoury lean on the finish. Consistently delightful drinking and a regional classic."
