The palate is rich and smooth, with cherry and red fruit leading to cinnamon spice and a hint of candied strawberry.

Technical:

The cooler, maritime climate of Mount Gambier allows for an extended growing season, which produces the delicate & complex flavours found in this Pinot. It was picked, destemmed and cold soaked for 7 days prior to fermentation, allowing vibrant strawberry and cherry flavours to be enhanced. 12 months in new & second use French Oak barriques

Accolades & Awards:

95 Points James Halliday Wine Companion

Whole-bunch fermentation in open top vessels, matured in French oak. Further evidence of the potential of Mount Gambier to produce elegant pinot noirs with impeccable varietal expression and is very well made. The red and black cherry fruits have a gentle, but persistent savoury twist that refreshes and complexes the wine.

With receiving the 95 Points, the Patrick of Coonawarra Pinot Noir outpointed the following

Pipers Brook New Certan Tasmanian Pinot Noir 2016 (92 Pts JH & $120)

Yeringberg Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2016 (91 Pts JH & $98)

Main Ridge Estate Half Acre Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2016 (93 Pts JH & $90)

Qwine Review

Although Patrick are Coonawarra based, this Pinot Noir is sourced from Mt Gambier just down the road. There's good energy about the aromas. Strawberries and red cherries, lillipilly berries and a dash of cured meat for good measure. A plummy drive meanders through the mouth but flavours are quite muted lacking the vibe set by the aromas. A lick of menthol peered out to say hello a little later.
