Tasting Notes:

Deep black with ruby red rim. Concentrated layered and hypnotic nose with dark cherry, mulberry, cassis, earth, milk chocolate and white pepper. Full bodied with rich, sweet-fruit flavours of plum, blackberry and plenty of firm, balanced tannin and very good length. There is a persistent oak backbone which works well with earthy flavours, leather saddle and pencil shavings whilst white pepper and a touch of acidity gives a linger finish that goes on and on.

Technical:

Sourced from single blocks across McLaren Vale region from vines aged up to 50 years. The grapes for this wine came largely from three vineyards between the slopes above Willunga. After a cold soak for several days and fermentation in open fermenters, to maximise colour and flavour, the wine was matured in used and a small proportion of new American Hogshead barrels for a minimum of 3 years.

A great wine to drink in its youth upon release but will continue to develop more complexity over the next 10 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Don the Duck from Surprising quality in a cleanskin I normally "rest" my purchases in my cellar for at least 6 months regardless of vintage but it was convenient to open a bottle of this immediately. I'm now on my fifth bottle - no resting needed! very good wine at this price - especially for a cleanskin.
