Deep crimson with a dark ruby core. Fragrant and spicy aromas of blackberry, blueberry, fresh plum, cassis, violets, black pepper, sage and bay leaf with underlying notes of cedar, charcuterie, baking spices and anise. The palate is rich, plush and complex, with layers of dark forest fruits, plum and spicy pepper, balanced by fresh acidity and carried by fine-grained tannins for a long and elegant finish.
Vintage 2019 shaped up to be a challenging one, with below-average yields, however the quality was very high, with beautiful expressions of varietal character and generally good balance and structure. The hand-picked fruit that arrived at the winery in the cool of the morning was clean, with good concentrated flavours. A dry winter, spring and summer with warmer than average temperatures in January and February lead to the advancement of maturity of all grape varieties in the Eden Valley and an early onset of vintage. The later-ripening varieties, riesling and cabernet were standouts, however most varieties were of a very high standard, including shiraz despite miniscule yields. 52% Shiraz | 25% Cabernet sauvignon | 12% Cabernet Franc | 11% Merlot

Dark, inky and opaque in the glass. Really juicy, dark fruited aromas of plum conserve, blackcurrant pastilles, sweet spice and mocha, there's a lift of violets in there as well. Full flavoured, ripe and opulent, there's a richness of dark fruit flavours here, plum, mulberry, blackberry and a touch of choc mint. Firm, textured tannins and lively acidity temper the plush fruit and provide mouth-feel and cut. Smart gear.

“Very attractive with powerful fresh dark plum, blackcurrant, chocolate, dark cherry, with roasted chestnut savoury notes. Blackberry pastille, musky plum, coffee grounds oak and firm tannins. Finishes minerally, long and well-balanced. Still quite elemental but with beautiful fruit definition. "

"There always seems to be a distinctive earthy vineyard character in this blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot. The oak is a mix of new and seasoned largely French with 20% American. Earthy blackcurrant fruit with a little licorice and dark plum. It’s a chewy and slightly meaty wine of excellent depth and concentration while retaining impeccable balance. Let it breathe even as a youngster to release those beautiful fruit characters."

“A plummy purple colour, we have notes of spices, herbs, hints of leather, aniseed, bay leaves, mulberries and a lovely core of chocolate…Firm, abundant tannins. Good focus here and impressive length. This is a ten year plus proposition…”

"Full-weighted, juicy and sweet upon entry, showcasing riffs on boysenberry coulis, blackcurrant, redder fruits, menthol, violet and sage. The flavors rumble along nicely, compressed by a soft nudge of tannin, grape and well-appointed oak, frisky and chalky of feel. This is a delicious wine. Its sassy immediacy belies a structural prowess, auguring for mid-term cellaring. "
