Deep dark magenta with black hues. This wine shows full density of colour. Kirsch with hazelnut that lift instantly from the glass and are highly perfumed. Strong aromas of hazel nut with nutmeg contribute with cherry rupe and boysenberry. Plush cherry chocolate fruit initially pounce from glass onto palate with firm and directional tannins that persist and drive long. There Is a savory element of damsum plum and spice that help lift the highly complex fruit matrix. The firm structure helps highlight the dark, dense and directional tannins that finish with chocolate and espresso. The flavours meld and continue long after tasting, providing a memorable tasting experience. The wine Is dense and unashamedly powerful but highly expressive of vineyard, region, vintage and variety.
The 2021 vintage provided good rainfall In Autumn and desired sporadic rainfall through spring which led to better than average fruit set. Furthermore, this filled and maintained soil moisture content all the way to summer. Far cooler than average summertime temperatures led to even ripening and slow grape maturation leading to exceptional phenolic ripeness and colour. This vintage was fortunate enough to avoid extreme heat events leading to perfect fruit conditions at time of harvest.

"Hand picked from 100-year-old vines; crushed to an open top fermenter for 10 days on skins, thence pressed to French hogsheads (45% new) for 24 months' maturation. This is a ravishingly beautiful wine, with a perfumed red and blue fruit bouquet promising a glorious palate that reflects all the decisions at every point along the way have been exactly chosen to deliver a wine that airily floats across the journey from vine to glass. Only 500 dozen made, which is a pity."

"Its a pure essence of the Barossa...Leave it in the glass and see how all that richness and power gradually release"
95 Point Rated - Andrew Caillard The Vintage Journal
"Inky deep palate with plentiful dark plum, blackberry, praline flavours, fine bittersweet tannins and underlying roasted walnut notes. Finishes chocolaty with persistent fresh acidity"
94 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Very deep, dense red-purple colour; the powerful bouquet expresses black coffee, dark chocolate, prune, walnut, vanilla and charred oak characters, the palate very full-bodied and powerful, with emphatic tannins and a long and gripping aftertaste. A massive wine which needs several years and will be very long-lived. Some spirity alcohol afterglow is well within bounds. (100th anniversary of the vineyard)"
