Tasting Notes:

The Dirtman 2021 vintage has been matured in new and seasoned American oak and features intense aromas of ripe stone fruit and spice, overlaid with nuances of smoky oak and blackcurrant. This full-bodied red wine has plenty of structure and depth, making it the perfect companion for rich and hearty dishes. Enjoy in front of the fire on a cosy night in or together with friends over dinner.

The palate is lively, well balanced medium weight soft round and fruit driven. The finish is harmonious and long, leaving spicy dark chocolate and stone-fruit flavours lingering on the palate.

Technical:

The fruit in The Dirtman Shiraz is sourced from vineyards in both the Eden Valley and the Barossa Valley. The two regions are distinctly different in terms of climate and dirt. Bringing them together allows us to craft a wine that celebrates classic Barossa Shiraz generosity and plushness, with a backbone of finesse that is ideal for aging.

Early temperatures in October and November were below average giving slow development. Cool dry ripening conditions later combined with low yields led to good varietal expression in Shiraz in both Eden Valley and Barossa. The tendency was for slightly lower alcohol and stylish elegance.

Accolades & Awards:

91 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep, dark red-purple hue; there are strong earthy, terracotta and brick dust aromas, coupled with brown spices and a hint of mint, the palate full and round, fruit-sweet at the core and supple in its tannins. There's good concentration and fleshy mouth-feel, drive and texture aplenty with plenty of character. Smart shiraz."

91 Point Rated - Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion

"A blend of shiraz from the Barossa and Eden valleys aged in new and seasoned French and American oak for 18 months. Bright ripe plum fruits with underlying hints of baking spices, Cherry Ripe, purple flowers, earth, smoked meats, cedar and dark chocolate. There is some nice mineral crunch to the plum and berry fruits on the palate, a woosh of oak spice and pressed flowers, light sandy tannin and a bright, medium-length finish."
