Tasting Notes:

Black-purple crimson Lifted, charismatic and offering waves of youthful primary concentration and savoury complexity evolution in the glass right from the first moment of impression. Notes of game, roast meat, olive tapenade and pure blueberry quickly begin to nuance crushed rock and flinty characters, while a deeply recessed, brooding sense of sheer power and racy pungency is but a silhouette of its potential. Deeply recessed layers of smokey bacon fat and blueberry mingle with cigar tobacco, subtle Asian spices and lavender in what is a very delicate yet an unusually approachable palate style. Highly polished yet deeply recessed tannin hint toward an ultra fine boned structure with density and concentration of character. Savoury complexities like cherry skin, black olive and jasmine tea are magically folded away like origami within the fine boned structure, laced with natural acidity

Technical:

Clarendon Hills is the living vision of one of the world's greatest Shiraz winemakers, Roman Bratasiuk. The dream was realised in 1990 and is now home to some of the most outstanding and hard to get single vineyard wines in Australia. The Astralis is the flagship wine in the Clarendon Hills portfolio, and while this vineyard is not treated any differently to the others, it garners the most worldwide attention due to its incredible expression and timeless elegance. From an Easterly aspect and planted on a 45 degree ascending slope, Australis has phenomenal varietal length and will repay the patient cellarer for more than 15 years.

Accolades & Awards:

100 Point Rated - Joe Czerwinski Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Cola, dried spices, menthol and blueberry notes all appear on the nose of the 2014 Astralis Syrah. A massive yet approachable wine, it's full-bodied and creamy-textured, with a rich, velvety finish that picks up awesome savory notes of anise, cracked pepper and roasted meat. It's simply a terrific wine that may be drunk soon or held up to two decades."

95 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson - James Halliday Wine Companion

"It takes richness and ripeness to extremes and yet it's elegant, controlled and long. It's precision engineering in wine form. The thrust of dark fruit, the sleek veneer of cedary, smoky oak, the attention-to-detail evident everywhere you look."
