The Leydens Vale Pinot Noir is a classic lighter style red wine, cherry red in colour, exhibiting strawberry fruit aromas, plus cherry fruit, game meat, and some regional mint flavours in a dry savoury style that is a great match for duck, game birds or cheese.
The Leydens Vale series of wines takes their name from John Leyden, one of the original land holders in the Pyrenees region of central / western Victoria in the 1890’s. The Leydens Vale Pinot Noir is an interesting regional version of the famous red wine of Burgundy. Pinot Noir is known as notoriously difficult to grow and at Blue Pyrenees Estate is used principally for sparkling wines. However in years such as the 2013 / 2014 growing season, Pinot Noir can produce a quality red wine in the Pyrenees. Such as batch was identified in the vineyard, allowed to ripen to 13.5 Beaume, and then fermented in a two tonne open fermenter for 7 days before pressing and maturing in old French oak barriques for 9 months.
"Blue Pyrenees Estate is consistently one of the best value red-wine producers in the country - to say nothing of its superb sparkling wines. The prices are a gift" - Huon Hooke, 2015
