Kopparossa Coonawarra Reserve Shiraz 2019
Deep, earthy red with purple and plum coloured hues. Toasty, spicy, cherry plum, chocolate with a hint of mint. Velvety, ripe fleshy cherry fruit flavours with a lingering astringency- from firm supple grape and oak tannins. Still a youthful wine that will develop into a bigger, richer, complex individual, as time goes on.
Basedows Of Barossa Black Label Shiraz 2021
Dark red and purple hues. Balanced aromas of blackberry, cedar and pepper on the nose. The palate is decadent and rich flavours of plum, dark chocolate and black cherry combine with silky tannins to create a smooth finish.
Kilikanoon Omen Shiraz 2015
Deep red and inviting with crimson hues. Great perfumed intensity, with dark black fruits, cherries, spice and a hint of dark chocolate. Layers of fruit intensity. Plums, blackberries, black pepper, cherries, all-spice and savoury, toasted oak on the way to a long and plush finish.
Ulithorne Prospera McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021
The Prospera displays a dark ruby-red colour tinted with a crimson rim. On the nose, the aromas are brimming with plentiful ripe fruits of cherry and strawberry, followed by fine spices and florals. The palate presents a fruit-driven wine with characters of fresh cherry and juicy plum, ascended by hints of cinnamon and liquorice. This concentrated, yet elegant wine is wrapped in layers of silky tannins, with a full body that is beautifully balanced by medium acidity.
Purple Hands Wines Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021
Purple/Red colour leads to an enticing nose of raspberry, licorice, cracked pepper with some dried herb showing. The French oak adding a vanilla and mocha note. Quite a dense palate with good concentration, licorice and bitter dark chocolate flavours tend to dominate the palate. Silky tannins give texture and balance to the wine. This wine comes alive when enjoyed with food. This wine can be enjoyed now but will reward cellaring over the next 10 – 15 years.
Schubert Estate Sentinel Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016
Rich ruby reds fill the glass, and splashes of vibrant crimson appear when the glass is swirled. On the nose there are wafts of freshly roasted coffee, Christmas cake, black currant, dates and baking spices. The palate is rich with flavours of blackberry, black plums, cocoa powder and graphite partnered with fine grain cedar oak tannins and fresh acidity and alcohol warmth. This wines is a complete package; approachable in its youth but also fit for the long haul on the cellar for 15 – 20 years.
Thompson Steer Coonawarra Shiraz 2021
This Shiraz delivers vibrant notes of dark-fruits paired with rich red-berry concentrates. Touches of subtle oak and hints of pepper spice complete the palate, supported by fine tannins for a layered finish.
Thompson Steer Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
This Cabernet Sauvignon embodies a fruit-driven wine with bold notes of blackcurrant, plum, and cherry. Touches of subtle oak, chocolate, and vanilla bean complete the rich round palate.
Stonehaven Stepping Stone Limestone Coast Shiraz 2020
Rich and bold, flavours of sweet red fruits, blackberry, and touches of pepper spice.
Kilikanoon Omen Shiraz 2015
Kilikanoon has a history of making some of the best Shiraz wines from prestige regions across South Australia, though today we focus our efforts wholly in Clare. This doesn’t mean however that we weren’t carefully maturing a number of the very best wines from our history. The Omen Shiraz draws on this multi region experience to craft a unique and complex wine.
Individual parcels of fruit from our Barossa and Clare Valley vineyards were fermented separately and matured in seasoned French oak puncheons. Only four barrels were then carefully selected, two from each region, and combine to create a 50/50 blend.
The Omen Shiraz is a blend of the very best Clare and Barossa Valley Shiraz from the famed 2015 vintage. It is fortuitous that both regions had outstanding conditions leading into the 2015 vintage. The combination of these into one wine allows each regions terroir to add dimension to the final blend. Clare provides the structure, elegance and red fruit characters, while Barossa adds layers of dark black fruits and spice.
Exclusively traditional techniques were used with the wine maturing in 100% new French oak hogsheads for nearly two years months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Since then, the wine has been held in the Kilikanoon cellars to further improve and mature in the bottle before release.
Purple Hands Wines Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021
The Shiraz was picked on the 15th and 22nd February 2021.
The fruit was crushed into open fermenters, one open fermenter was seeded with Melody yeast with. Temperatures were allowed to reach 28C with header boards allowing gentle extraction. After 12 and 13 days on skins respectively the fruit was basket pressed and transferred into 19% new French oak puncheons with balance into 1-6 year old French oak hogsheads to undergo malo-lactic fermentation. After malo-lactic fermentation the wine was racked, blended then transferred back to the same oak and matured for another 16 months. The wine was pumped from oak in September.
Schubert Estate Sentinel Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016
The Sentinel Shiraz is crafted from fruit grown in our Roennfeldt Road estate vineyards at Marananga on the western side of the central Barossa Valley. The fruit is hand-picked, destemmed and fermented min 5 tonne open top fermenters with twice daily pump-overs to achieve maximum extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. At the completion of fermentation, the wine is basket pressed and filled to a combination of new (26%) and seasoned (74%) French oak barriques for 16 months.

"A sumptuous offering, the wine has heady fragrance of dark fruit richness, vanilla, toasted spice, cocoa and cedar, leading to a brooding palate that's packed with powerful fruit flavours with seductive complexity. Opulent and flavoursome with a lingering velvety finish. At its best: now to 2036."

"Shiraz with plenty of sauce. Sweet blackberry and plum flavours come liberally adorned in smoky, bacon-y oak. One sip and you’re either in love or aghast; its persona is immediately and overwhelmingly apparent. The fruit here, the juicy sweet flow of it, and the oak, so silken and smoky at once, make for pretty sexy drinking, depending of course in your tastes in wood. One thing that should be emphasised here though is that the fruit feels fresh and flowing; it’s not heavy/hot/overdone."

"This is a reliable address, responsible for full-weighted and powerful wines of considerable refinement, if not an older school aura. Barrel-fermented aromas of smoked meats and vanilla curd are toasty and intoxicating. Dank spice and dark plum, mosey amidst the morass. Clove, pepper and cardamon spruik a spicy finish. A throaty, nourishing wine of appeal."

Ahhhh. Sometimes all you want is well done, archetype Shiraz. Inky stain down the wall of the glass. Plenty of fleshy plum purple, raspberry red, black and green peppercorns, a kiss of anise-laden licorice, lavender honey, some dense burnt-ends meatiness and a swathe of just-sweet oak. Showing elegance and restraint, yet silky and fluid: effortlessly flowing with a plushness of fruit and grip of quality, fine, rumbly tannin. Excellent length, freshness and concentration through the tail.

Southern Barossa fruit aged for 20 months in French oak. The picture of a contemporary Barossan shiraz, this is spicy and vibrant with plush dark plum and blueberry fruits floating on a raft of spice with blossomy, floral lift. The tannins are sandy and compact and there is a juicy palate feel with a brisk cadence and a plume of ripe, pure fruit on the finish.

More purple tongue for me, usually, when I’m tasting a bit of Barossa Shiraz.
Blue and black fruit, a little spice, some dried flowers, with a salted cracker character. It’s juicy and fruity, all blueberry and boysenberry, with a little toasty oak, grainy tannin, and a finish of solid length. Slightly rugged, but has energy. Good.

The Marananga sub-region of the Barossa Valley speaks so clearly in this delightful Shiraz. The area lies on ancient red soils, rich in ironstone and quartzite close to the Valley floor, and is a favourite place for sourcing Shiraz from makers such as Penfolds, Hentley Farm, Chateau Tanunda, amongst others. Schubert delivers lifted scents of dusty cacao, macaroon, aromatic spice, fennel seed, set among a trove of black fruits and fleshy, sweet blueberries. Marananga brings an upfront juiciness to Shiraz fruit combined with a natural ferrous, mineral-led fineness. Even in its youth, which the 2016 definitely is, there is an elegance emerging. Fine, firm tannins from time in new and seasoned French oak are nicely combined. Concentrated and intense, I noted in my tasting that it is a meal in itself. With that in mind, save a glass to savour by itself.

An inky, impenetrable purple colour. Violets and ripest blackberries, olives and plum sauce. This is a bouquet of immense openness. Overt and obvious. Unquestionably ripe though completely drinkable.

Raisin, brandy, earth and coffee-like characters sweep warmly through the palate. It carries gentle truffle-like secondary characters and finishes warm. It’s hard to see what the thinking was here.

"Delicious. It's spicy, juicy and a little bit fruit-sweet, with plenty of plump plush fruit to keep things joyful. It's not complex, but there's a really satisfying backdrop of exotic spice and soft tannins to engage. At $13, you'd be pretty happy with this I should imagine."
