Brygon Reserve The Bruce Margaret River Shiraz 2015
The Bruce Shiraz is brilliant, dark red with a rich purple hue. This wine displays lifted fruit characters of ripe plum, chocolate with a hint of liquorice, complemented by savoury notes of black pepper and spice. Full flavoured and luscious, the palate is silky smooth with hints of cinnamon and light vanillin oak overtones on the lengthy, well structured finish.
Landhaus Classics Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013
This densely coloured wine is showing deep and complex aromas of dark chocolate, earth and perfumed blackberries. The palate is full of luscious red and black fruits, chocolate, liquorice and earth characteristics. The texture is silky and mouth-filling with lively acid and fine tannins providing great balance and structure. The resulting wine is a pure and pristine expression of Barossa fruit.
Fu Barossa Valley Shiraz 2008
Vibrant dark black ruby core with a bright purple red hue. An overload of aromas, chocolate and licorice spice jump out of the glass followed by intense dark cherry and blackberry all supported by lighter floral notes with hints of oak, white pepper, smoked meat and cedar. The palate in a word is bold there’s rich fruit up front which slaps you in the face. There is an array of chocolate, black berry and cassis with a great acidity which keeps the dense fruit impressively in balance. Dense and mouth filling the finish lingers for a long time with a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon spices. A big bold chunky style of Barossa Valley Shiraz the way it should be.
Lindsay Park Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
Intensely dark crimson red to purple colour. Ripe blackberry with plums and licorice notes with subtle new oak. Full and vibrant style immersed in ripe blackberry and plum fruit flavours from the start with licorice and pepper touches and a dash of new oak adding complexity. The tannins are smooth and subtle and leave a lingering aftertaste of sweet spices and nutmeg.
Olssens of Watervale The Olssen Six 2013
Black with purple flashes. Aromas of ripe plum and cherry, dark chocolate with a touch of pepper and earth. Upon further airing more flavours fill the palate with black olive. Palate displays rich, ripe and plump with a core of plum, chocolate and dark cherry flavours. Soft, savoury tannins and good acid add structure add length to the wine whilst well integrated oak provides the perfect backbone but not being the dominant feature.
The Alexander Cameron Limestone Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Deep inky red in colour. Black currant mint and cedar are the prevailing characters with milk chocolate and pencil shavings common characters in high quality Cabernet Sauvignon from this region. The palate has black cherry and black currants providing the core whilst spearmint, spice and cedar add another layer of depth and complexity. Milk chocolate combines with finely grained tannins to provide a smooth ride and a touch of acid on this finish gives the wine a wonderful final kick.
Fu Shiraz 2012
Deep dark black with crimson hues. Big explosion of aromas including freshy plum wand black currant with aged characters showing including leather saddle, coffee, chocolate and spice. Powerful fruit flavours despite the obvious age of the wine, there’s a blanket of tannin and oak which all provide the backbone. Plum, liqueur, leather, earth, coffee and smoked meat all perform roles here. A perfect balance between oak and fruit has been achieved and these characters appear to have perfectly melted into one another over time. The tannin structure is long and velvety with the wine having an incredibly long finish.
Super Premium Est 1847 Cabernet Shiraz 2010 Cleanskin
Vibrant red with purple hues. Concentrated with bright aromatic dark berry fruits, fresh plums and white pepper with a whisper of mint. Oak derived cedar and vanilla notes provide complementary complexity. Rich and flavoursome with an array of stylish fruit flavours enhanced by deftly handled oak, while balanced acidity and polished tannins work harmoniously with these flavours to provide a wine of power, density and length.
Landhaus Classics Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013
The Classics Shiraz is sourced from old low yielding vineyards in Greenock, Kalimna, Ebenezer and Bethany, where the soil is a red/brown earth over a dark red clays with a separating layer of chalky limestone. The soil type allows the development of rich fruit flavours and ripe tannins. The yield for 2013 was between 1 to 1.25 tons to the acre.
Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters, the Shiraz was fermented on skins for 14 days at a cool temperature to enhance the pure berry fruit and is hand plunged 3 times daily. It completed primary and MLF in oak and then matured for 18 months in oak, matured on lees to maintain fruit profile and animation, minimal SO2. Topped up every 3 weeks.
Fu Barossa Valley Shiraz 2008
This wine is sourced from a single old vine vineyard from what we consider one of the Barossa Valleys finest growers 2008 was one of the standout vintages of the last decade. An ideal vintage which gave us the benefit of perfectly, ripened fruit. The smooth flow of vintage allowed us to select specific fruit parcels and allowed us to define the wine as much in the vineyard as the winery. These grapes are brought into the winery and crushed into old vats where the fermentation is initiated by wild yeasts found on the grape skins. Careful extraction and short post fermentation maceration is followed by soft pressing. The wine is transferred into brand new oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation is completed before racking and maturation for 48 months in barrels. A careful assemblage and barrel selection is followed by minimal filtration and bottling.
Lindsay Park Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
The fruit for this wine was picked over 2 weeks from a single vineyard in the Western Barossa Valley ensuring a range of fruit characters despite being from a single location. We then crushed, de-stemmed and left on skins in open top fermenters for 7 days. A slow ferment then occurred at cool temperatures, the wine was pumped over to ensure fruit intensity. Once fermentation was completed the wine was pressed into new and old French and American barrels. The wine spent 12 months in oak maturing then under went final barrel selection prior to bottling with minimal filtration.
Olssens of Watervale The Olssen Six 2013
The fruit was picked over a 3-week period starting at the beginning of March, once picked the fruit was transported to the winery and de-stemmed. Primary fermentation was carried out in stainless steel fermenters the grapes were pressed using pneumatic bag press with all pressings returned to add more weight and texture to the wine. The wine was then transferred to French and American oak for secondary malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured for 18 months prior to the selection of the barrels deemed best of vintage for inclusion in the final Six. This Ultra Premium dry red blend is made up of 85% Clare Merlot & 15% Clare Shiraz.
The Alexander Cameron Limestone Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
The fruit was picked at optimum ripeness and transported to the winery and immediately crushed. Following on from this we fermented the juice on skins for 10-12 days to maximise colour and flavour extraction. The skins were then pressed gently and the pressings pumped back with the free-run juice. The wine was then fermented over a week then allowed to settle and was then racked off lees. The wine under went malolactic fermentation in barrel and then was aged in the same barrels for 12 months. The wine was blended and prepared for bottling with minimal filtration.
Fu Shiraz 2012
This wine is sourced from a single old vineyard from what we consider be one of the finest vineyards in South Australia. 2012 was one of the standout vintages of the last decade. 95 Points James Halliday Wine Companion
Very good colour; rich, full-bodied and full-flavoured; the only question is whether 18 months maturation in 100% new French oak was too much of a good thing. Because the wine still has balance, and the black fruits are still well and truly on display, it gets the benefit of the minor doubt.
With the 95 Points from James Halliday the Landhaus Classics Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013 outpointed the following;
Chateau Tanunda The Everest Barossa Shiraz 2013 (91 Pts. J.H & $195)

Rated 95 Points (Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #212)
"Very deep garnet coloured with some bring in the rim and profoundly scented, the 2008 F.U Shiraz offers a complex nose of dried figs, mulberries, dates and Christmas pudding with suggestions of chocolate box, anise, sandalwood, vanille and potpourri. The palate reveals a well-balanced wine of massive proportions with tons of baking spice and dried fruit layers supported by a high level of chewy tannins and uplifting acid, finishing with epic persistence. Drink it now to 2022+." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown.
Rated 92 Points (Australian Wine Showcase Magazine)
"Fantastic colour, coupled with powerful, luscious aromas. Has sold varietal flavours with good freshness and nice long finish."
International Wine Show London
"Dairy, grilled meaty quality; savoury, fully developed. A mouth coating palate, finish won't quit!"
Rated 99 Points (Jay Miller - Wine Advocate)
"The 2004 F.U. Shiraz is similarly brooding and liqueur-like. It spent 30 months in new French oak hogsheads and offers a compelling bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, mineral, blueberry and blackberry. Lighter on its feet then The Wine with a more forward personality, it has layers of flavour, savoury fruit, and enough silky tann to evolve for a decade. Drink it from 2014 to 2034."
The 2006 F.U. - Jay Miller from Wine Advocate gave it 96-99 Points but that was a barrel tasting. Looks like it sold for US$300 a bottle. I am guessing it came out of an investment portfolio here, and the usual outcome is that it's the investor who gets creamed so it probably is a good buy.

Previous Vintage Tasting Note James Halliday Wine Companion;
"Good colour; highly intense and focused wine, the power coming not from the tannins or extract so much as the array of primary black, with some red, fruits; there is remarkable elegance amidst this precocious display of power."
