Annie's Lane Quelltaler Watervale Shiraz Cabernet 2016
Enticing aromas of spices, dark berries and plums, along with whiffs of inky liquorice and toasted cedar. Plums, raspberries, red and blackcurrants, mulberries, and spices along with chalky fine tannins.
Normans Peacock Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2017
Deep dark red colour, the bouquet of dark fruit and dried herbs and earth on the nose with hints of mocha and chocolate. The palate is full of soft dark fruit flavours when allowed to breathe, there is a natural earth character to the wine reminiscent of a Southern Rhone style blend. Blackberry, and blackcurrant in highly concentrated amounts, dark plum, liquorice all provide an opulent yet not overpowering feel. Spicy vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco character and a touch of pepper. Its an old school lighter style of premium wine more in line with the 80's and early 90's style of winemaking before high alcohol wines became accepted with wonderful aged character even in its infancy.
Bleasdale Generations Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2018
This wine shows flavours of ripe plums and other dark berries, layered with liquorice, pepper and fresh spices.
Olssen Of Watervale The Olssen Six Clare Valley Red 2017
Black with currant red flashes. Fragrant nose displaying sweet red berries with plum and mulberry highlights. Spicy and fruit driven with freshly cut plums along with dark cherry flavours. Soft, savoury tannins and good acid add structure and length to this voluptuous wine. Well-integrated oak provides the perfect backbone with tannins and acid all melting into one another.
Viking Odins Honour Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
Dark crimson red with dark black core. Rich earthy characters with an abundance of black fruit followed by hints of chocolate, licorice, leather, black pepper and oak. This is a big traditional style of Shiraz, which we recommend is decanted and allowed to breathe prior to consuming. Black fruits are at the forefront here and an earthy character reflecting its age is also evident although freshness from the fruit and natural acid highlights its ability to age further with ease. The oak and tannin melt into the fruit and some more subtle hints of leather and just a touch of black pepper create further complexity.
Clarendon Hills Domaine Clarendon Old Vine Grenache 2016
A floral perfume of lavender, rose petals and violets plays with strawberry fruit while undercurrents of Turkish delight and maraschino cherry contrast with star anise and Chinese five-spice lightly pepper the edges. The bright natural acidity creates a kaleidoscopic effect on the palate, highlighting the purity of red fruit and the elegance of perfectly balanced acid, fruit, and lightly chalky textures. It is amazingly focused and clean and charismatic yet extremely generous in its composition and is capable of significant dividends in the years to come.
Monolith Vintners Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
A massive all encompassing nose when allowed to breathe, it’s a little closed initially but once allowed to breathe you will find forest fruits, blackberries, smoked meat and pepper which are supported by a dark core of espresso bean, black currants and dried raisons.
The palate shows superb concentration offering up tremendous texture and combines great fruit richness with subtle notes of leather, blackcurrant and alcohol. This style of wine requires decanting and time to breathe to soften prior to consuming although has been cellared prior to release the wine has the fruit, alcohol and tannin structure to ensure cellaring for many more years where it will continue to evolve.
Turkey Flat Barossa Valley Grenache 2018
Mark Bulman has made Grenache his signature varietal after taking over full control of winemaking at Turkey Flat in 2010. Under his direction this remains respectful to our past tradition of making Grenache into a fine wine, while moving seamlessly into a more refined, contemporary style. The wine was fermented with 15% whole bunch with half the remaining stems also included in the ferment. Maturation took place in a combination of neutral oak Foudre and neutral oak puncheons. The resulting wine shows beautiful floral and spiced aromatics, bright fruit that fills out into more complex spiced and savoury characteristics, and strong tannins that will ensure longevity.
Annie's Lane Quelltaler Watervale Shiraz Cabernet 2016
Quelltaler Shiraz Cabernet s made with a minimal intervention approach, retaining and enhancing the natural expression of the fruit. Small batch open fermenters were used to treat vineyard parcels separately, allowing the winemaker to maintain and develop the unique characteristics of each vineyard. After fermentation, the wines were pressed into a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels for a minimum maturation period of 18 months before individual barrel selection. Only the finest barrels that reflect the ‘terroir’ of Clare Valley are selected.
The Annie's Lane Quelltaler Shiraz Cabernet finely balances the richness of Shiraz with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Plums, raspberries, red and blackcurrants, mulberries, and spices along with chalky fine tannins
Normans Peacock Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2017
Sourced from two vineyards one in the warmer Seppeltsfield region and the other in the cooler Angaston region from vines with an average age of 90 years. Fermented in small open top stainless steel with some whole berries, these fermenters ensure we maintain strong fruit flavor from skins and whole berries. Hand plunged two to four times daily for two weeks then transferred into 1 and 2-year-old American and French oak barrels for the remainder of ferment then spent 24 months in the same barrels to allow full flavor development with minimal topping and Sulphur additions before being bottled without fining or filtration. Drinking well now but if you are patient enough to hold off this will develop beautifully in the cellar and build the aged character which has been a hallmark of this wine.
Bleasdale Generations Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2018
The majestic red gums that surround Bleasdale are at the core of our remarkable history. When Frank Potts settled the land in the 1850s, he used the timber from these big, beautiful trees to build our winery. Our vineyards benefit from the rich, clay soils that also support these gums, giving generosity and longevity to our wines. The growth rings reflect the multitude of stories from past seasons and generations of family and growers alike.
Shiraz was the first red grape variety planted in Langhorne Creek at Bleasdale in 1858. This wine shows flavours of ripe plums and other dark berries, layered with liquorice, pepper and fresh spices. Drinking well now, but with the potential to be a long term cellaring prospect if desired. Lightly fined and racked before bottling without filtration, it is normal for some sediment to form. Decanting one hour before drinking is recommended.
Olssen Of Watervale The Olssen Six Clare Valley Red 2017
Carefully selected parcels of fruit were selected from the Watervale region in the Clare Valley. We picked in the evening and decided to macerate over night and crush the fruit early the next morning. The wine was fermented in older French barrels, and left to age in oak before we selected only the best barrels of the vintage for inclusion in the final six blend then the wine was blended and bottled with minimal fining or filtration.
Viking Odins Honour Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
This wine is sourced from an old dry grown vineyard with vines dating back to the early 1900’s from what we consider one of the Barossa Valley’s finest blocks. The growing season was near on perfect. An ideal vintage, which gave us the benefit of perfectly, ripened fruit. The smooth flow of vintage allowed us to select specific fruit parcels and allowed us to define the wine as much in the vineyard as the winery. These grapes are brought into the winery, and crushed into old vats where the fermentation is initiated by “wild” yeasts found on the grape skins. Careful extraction and short post fermentation maceration is followed by soft pressing. The wine is transferred into brand new oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation is completed before racking and maturation for a further 24 months in barrels. A careful assemblage and barrel selection is followed by minimal filtration and bottling then further aging prior to release.
Clarendon Hills Domaine Clarendon Old Vine Grenache 2016
Clarendon Hills, a name that stands for perfection. The Clarendon Hills wines can blend among the best in the world. This pure grenache is a masterpiece, Clarendon makes 2 different grenache-based wines that come from 2 different vineyards that are a few meters apart, yet the wines are deeply different. This wine is a power bomb filled with fruits, red cherries, ginger and white pepper, it is extremely elegant and intense.
Monolith Vintners Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
The 2017 vintage proved to be another good Barossa vintage following on from the outstanding 2016 vintage which although had challenges provided excellent varietal flavours. The dry grown, old vines that yielded this fruit managed to produce wonderful fruit despite small volumes. We hand picked the fruit from a single block with vines aged up to 90 years. The fruit was transported to the winery where it was gently de-stemmed into concrete open top fermenters. It was then carefully nurtured for 7 days on skins with pump overs occurring twice daily, varying in duration and intensity. When primary fermentation was almost complete, the wine was drained from the skins and the must is gently basket pressed for 8 hours. The wine remains in a stainless steel tank until primary fermentation is completed. It is then run directly into new and old American and French hogsheads where it spent the next 24 months. Once the oak and the wine had perfectly become one the wine is blended and bottled without the use of filtration or fining. 670 six packs were produced in total.
Turkey Flat Barossa Valley Grenache 2018
Turkey Flat has more than 25 years experience in making Grenache. This older variety for South Australia has a natural home in the Barossa, although respect for the variety as a maker of fine wine has only recently been achieved. It has been an important part of the Turkey Flat range since 1992. The 2018 growing season was long, hot and dry leading to a slightly early, low yielding vintage. The wines from the 2018 vintage are fruit rich, well coloured and of substance. The vintage will be remembered for producing wines that reflect the generosity for which has made the Barossa famous and a reminder of just how well Grenache flourishes in hardy conditions.

"Aromas of chocolate, green leaf and/or mint (depending on how you see it), earth and spice, the latter perhaps an oak character. Only medium-bodied, the fruit is bright and buoyant, fresh and youthful in nature, with both varieties contributing to the spread of flavours. The tannin feels a touch gummy, but a little more bottle age should see it all come together."

"It starts with a waft of meaty reduction before florals, licorice and Middle Eastern spices take over. There's more: black plums, charry oak and a savoury overlay with plush tannins and a certain vivacity. Appeals now, but will further reward those with patience."

"For whatever reason, I think of mobile power sources, and maybe Doctor Who. Ripe, blackberry, a bit of toasty oak and dried beef. Robust, fleshy, plenty of tannin, beef and blackberry, and black bean, good finish. Sticky ribs of tannin. Plenty of flavour."

"The wine is predominantly sourced from estate vines planted over 100 years ago. It's been treated with total respect in the winery, matured in used oak without any additions other than SO2. Extraordinary value for a wine with decades ahead."

“Beautiful ripe and opulent style of grenache. It’s quite high in alcohol but it expresses with an effortless easiness. Has a steely fine tannin structure. Has firmish, slightly grippy tannins and stems are added to provide structure in much the same way as pinot noir. Energy in the palate. Lifted red fruits. Brilliant colour, too. Excellent wine.”
Turkey Flat Barossa Valley Grenache 2018

"Sweet brown spices, liquorice, tea leaf, blackberry, raspberry. Medium bodied, firm grained almost Nebbiolo tannin, savoury flavours, certainly tea and bergamot, red and black fruits. Structure and interest. Quite a different style here. Seems like the exuberance of Barossa Grenache has been tamed to deliver a more adult expression? Very nice."
Turkey Flat Barossa Valley Grenache 2018
Highly Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Big colour and nose, with alcohol showing and some almost prune-like notes. Some green herbs. The wine is big and bold, raunchy and full-bodied, with masses of slightly sappy tannin and a grippy, slightly hot finish. A mid-palate dip. A rather clumsy wine but it has a lot of guts and presence."
