Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier 2017
Pure aromas reminiscent of fresh apricots, lifted ginger, saffron and fresh white flowers. The palate is long, rich and luscious, with intense and expressive stone fruit flavours finishing with an alluring freshness. This wine will continue to grow and develop in the bottle, firstly showing enhanced apricots and spice, then honey flavours and toast complexity.
Draytons Family Bellevue Heritage Grand Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz 2014
This Shiraz is amber red in colour with an attractive fruit aroma of ripe plums, blackberries and subtle oak. The palate is medium bodied, yet exhibits full spicy, peppery flavours with a soft, round tannin finish. This wine has an excellent balance of acid and fruit; it is a great representation from a vintage regarded as one of the best from the Hunter Valley.
Yalumba The Scribbler Barossa Valley Cabernet Shiraz 2015
Yalumba have long championed this classic Australian blend, and you don't do it as well as this without being among the best at it. Look for utter seamlessness, no folds or bumps in existence; layers of black and blue fruit intensity; classy tannins and a pure structure. The brooding length on the finish completes a very high quality picture.
Normans Chais Clarendon Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
Deep dark purple/black with red hue. Luscious aromas of ripe blackberry and concentrated cherry are highlighted by nuances plum, red licorice and spice. The palate is youthfully opulent and potent, with rich dark plum, cherry, blackberry, whilst complexity is derived from aniseed, red liquorice and Chinese five spices building through the mid palate before the firm round tannins and a refreshing kick of acid explodes. This full-bodied Shiraz has a long lingering finish. Enhanced with wonderfully seamless integration of oak.
Yalumba The Strapper Barossa Valley GSM 2015
Garnet red in colour, this wine leaps from the glass with strawberry compote, potpourri, nutmeg and fennel seed. The palate has juicy raspberry, ironstone and a long savoury line that finishes with talc like tannins.
D’Arenberg The Dead Arm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016
Matured in a mixture of new and used French and old American oak barriques. Magnificent impenetrable inky black core with an equally deep vibrant dark red black hue. Potent blackberry, liquorice and ripe black cherry aromas are trailed by hints of dark chocolate, vanillin oak, inky earth, subtle black olive and spice notes. Full bodied, rich and possessing a stern tannin structure, although it’s not as firm and astringent as recent vintages, luscious black fruits and liquorice swamp the palate with underlying elements of vanillin oak, earthy black olive and blackpepper also evident. The tightly wound tannins then kick in leaving a dry firm finish and very bright, youthful acidity. Excellent power with a long chewy aftertaste.
Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier 2017
With 170 years of unbroken independence, Yalumba continues to make wine at its founder’s home estate under direction of the same family today. Samuel’s Collection honours Yalumba’s founder Samuel Smith, his spirit of independence and conviction to invest in the land and make great wine.
After harvest about 60% of the fruit was gently pressed directly to barrels, the rest to stainless steel tanks. The juice was allowed to passively interact with the air, oxidising out any bitter phenolics and creating a perfect environment for the indigenous yeasts, natural to the vineyard, to ferment. The wine was left on lees with regular batonnage for 10 months which increased the complexity and creaminess of the wine and further heightened the palate weight.

Yalumba The Scribbler Barossa Valley Cabernet Shiraz 2015
Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in sizeand stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over.

Fermented in small open top stainless steel, these fermentors ensure we maintain strong fruit flavor from skins. Hand plunged twice daily for seven days then transferred into American and French oak barrels for the remainder of ferment then spent 14 months to allow full flavor development.

The GSM blend is a stalwart of the Barossa. The three red varieties have been planted in the region for nearly 170 years and in the past were commonly blended to make fortified “tawny port” style wines. After World War II the same blend started to become popular in table wines. ‘Grenache Shiraz Mataro’ is a bit of a mouthful - hence the birth of the colloquial ‘GSM’.
D’Arenberg The Dead Arm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016
Walking the old Shiraz vineyards and tasting grapes, Chester Osborn classifies and determines the ideal picking time for each individual vineyard. Small batches are crushed in the Demoisy open-mouthed, rubber toothed crusher and then trans-ferred to five-tonne headed-down open fermenters. These batches remain separate until final blending.
Foot treading is undertaken on most parcels two thirds of the way through fermentation. When tannin extraction is just right the wine is basket pressed and transferred to a mixture of new and used French and old American oak barriques to complete primary and secondary fermentation. The barrel ferments are aged on lees to keep the wine fresh while also reducing the oak influence. There is no racking until final blending. Chester undertakes an extensive barrel tasting process to determine the final blend. The Dead Arm does not undertake fining or filtration prior to bottling which may result in a harmless deposit in or adhering to the bottle.

"Bright, medium yellow colour, with a sweetly fragrant apricot, almost gewürz-like aroma, and a soft, rounded, boldly fruity palate, which also tastes of spiced honey and herbs. It's soft and rounded, smooth and balanced, slightly simple, with easy going texture and structure, seamless acidity and discreet alcohol."
93 Point Rated Tyson Stelzer
“Yalumba’s legendary Eden Valley Viognier rebadged, this blend of six vineyards is alluringly eloquent take on this variety. It’s crunchy, textured and focused, uniting almost ripe apricot and apricot kernel and bran, concluding with outstanding persistence and elegantly lively lemon juice acidity. Yalumba’s wizardry with this varietal shines in superb, fine texture. As classy as ever, and a bargain.”

A beautifully styled cabernet shiraz blend, the inviting bouquet shows blackcurrant, dark plum, cigar, olive and cedar characters. The palate is succulent and mouthfilling with excellent fruit purity together with seductive spicy oak undertones, wonderfully framed by polished tannins.
5 Stars Raymond Chan
Full, near impenetrable black-hued red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full with good depth and density of ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit along with notes of black plums, mint and herbs, unfolding spice and cedar elements. The fruit has plenty of presence. Full-bodied, the palate is softly packed with dense flavours of ripe blackberries and blackcurrants along with notes of cassis liqueur, dark herbs and mint, revealing black plum, cedary oak and spice nuances. The mouthfeel is rounded with soft, grainy tannin textures giving a fulsome mouthfeel, the richness enhanced by soft acidity. Some underlying alcoholic power is present and carries the wine to a full, soft, nuanced finish. This is a softly full and densely packed Cabernet/Shiraz showing ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with herb, mint, plum and cedar notes on a fulsome palate. Match with casseroles and roast red meats over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Shiraz from the Barossa, indigenous yeast initiated fermentation to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 15% new French and Hungarian oak hogsheads and barriques.

Ripe, almost luscious red with bright berry, plum and raspberry flavours together with a seasoning of spicy oak. Fine, peppery tannins balance sweetness and promote a drying finish. A wine that delivers a lot of bang for the buck

Reasonably light, supple, fruity Barossa Valley red with raspberry, pepper, violet and wood smoke flavours. Very accessible Rhône-like wine - a versatile red that can be enjoyed with or without food.

Yalumba's The Strapper 2015 is a juicy and robust red wine blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) grapes. Well-priced. The Grenache shines in this wine with its ripe and juicy raspberry flavours, dark plums, dark chocolate and nutty finish.

2016 is shaping as a great year for McLaren Vale Shiraz with the iconic release of the Dead Arm from d’Arenberg yet another reference point. The Dead Arm is consistently a brooding number in its youth with tightly bound dark fruits that soften and evolve with time.
An inky but youthful dark red in the glass, the nose shows tightly held blackberry and dark cherry alongside bramble and clay; sweeter oak adds richness.
The wine is defined by its taut but drying backbone of tannin and juicy acidity that has graphite and earth on full show. Fruit has a savouriness but above all concentration with blackberry and plum shining through with prodigious length to finish.
Bury this in your cellar for decades.

Dead Arm! A wine with great history and here's a beauty with a bright future.
It's dense and dark with a basket of black fruits generously handed out. Plums and dark chocolate with fine spices, dashes of pepper plus some oak showing its hand. Cocoa-like tannins coat the mouth softly leaving a long and memorable finish. Time will only be its friend. A great wine.
Drink 2020 to a decade+

Very deep, dark, youthful purple/red colour, which stains the glass, and a licorice and plum jam bouquet, with some overripe touches. There is a touch of sulfide too. The palate is gritty-textured and full-bodied, with a distinct touch of bitterness. It's hard to divine the future of this wine. One thing is certain: it needs more time
