Limb Vineyards Home Block Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014

2014 will be remembered for one of the hottest summers recorded in South Australia. The temperature reached 40 degrees or above on 13 occasions. This resulted in lower crops than the average and early ripening. After the heat, a rain event caused the most February rain for 30 years, providing beneficial moisture and berry flavour to develop alongside sugar formation. Following on from picking we crushed the fruit and allowed fermentation with whole berries to enable high levels of natural fruit and acid to combine perfectly which also developed a lovely backbone of tannin. The wine was matured in both new and old oak over an extended period of 2 years then the wine was aged in bottle for a further year.

Limb Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

Picking started earlier than usual when the colour and baume levels were at an optimum, then the grapes were gently crushed and fermented in my small capacity open top fermenters for 7 days with plunging twice daily. The wine was then pressed and drained off into some new and old French and American hogsheads’ for 12 months prior to bottling. This wine encapsulates Barossa Valley Shiraz the way it should be, an honest reflection of the vineyard where it was grown.
