Normans Estate Est 1853 Vine Ancestry Shiraz 2017
Well-balanced elegant nose with soft freshly cut plum, blackberry and blueberry notes showing its youthfulness at this stage. This is complimented with star anise spice giving depth to the highly aromatic bouquet. Full and vibrant with an initial surge of juicy fruit flavours of blackberry, plum and mulberry. The oak and tannins are smooth and subtle with the under lying taste whilst some spice and natural fruit acid give length and definition. An outstanding match with all full flavoured red meat dishes. I find it goes well with the over powering delicious flavour of barbequed spare ribs!
Yalumba The Strapper Barossa Valley GSM 2015
Garnet red in colour, this wine leaps from the glass with strawberry compote, potpourri, nutmeg and fennel seed. The palate has juicy raspberry, ironstone and a long savoury line that finishes with talc like tannins.
Yalumba Triangle Block Eden Valley Shiraz Viognier 2014
Blended with a hint of Viognier this wine has an opaque dark red black core with a bright dark red hue. Ripe plum and liquorice aromas are to the fore underscored by hints of blueberry and lightly toasted vanillin cedar. Medium bodied with a supple mouthfeel the palate is generously flavoured with spicy dark plums and liquorice over some earth and lightly toasted vanillin cedar. Slightly dryish finish with velvet like tannins. Aftertaste of spicy dark plums, liquorice, a touch of earth and toasty vanillin cedar.
Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Vibrant crimson red. Strong mulberry and cherry fruit with under lying French oak which adds complexity to the bouquet. Full and vibrant fruit flavours of dark red berry and plum fill the mid palate. Soft tannins go well with the elegant under lying taste of French oak to make this a very easy drinking Cabernet Sauvignon destined to age well.
Draytons Family Oakey Creek Hunter Valley Heritage Red 2015
This wine is bright ruby red in colour with intense berry fruit aromas. The palate is medium bodied with rich blackcurrant and ribena like fruit flavours. The tannins are soft silky smooth. It is for immediate drinking, however, will continue to improve with 3 to 5 years bottle age.
Normans Estate Est 1853 Vine Ancestry Shiraz 2017
Sourced from multiple sites in South Australia from vines aged from 35 - 80 years of age. The wine was fermented in small stainless steel fermenters to retain concentrated fruit flavours. To complete the fermentation process and maturation the wine went into mostly old oak barrels with a small percentage of new oak for a period of 12 months. This enabled the use of the finely toasted oak barrels to slowly infiltrate the highly concentrated fruit flavour creating a well-balanced yet complex tannin structure.
Yalumba The Strapper Barossa Valley GSM 2015
Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in sizeand stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over.
The GSM blend is a stalwart of the Barossa. The three red varieties have been planted in the region for nearly 170 years and in the past were commonly blended to make fortified “tawny port” style wines. After World War II the same blend started to become popular in table wines. ‘Grenache Shiraz Mataro’ is a bit of a mouthful - hence the birth of the colloquial ‘GSM’.
Yalumba Triangle Block Eden Valley Shiraz Viognier 2014
Eden Valley has been home to Yalumba and its Shiraz since 1849. Taking the name from Yalumba’s oldest surviving centennial Shiraz vineyard, and grapes from a handful of our most loved vineyards, the Triangle Block pays testament to this history. With a hint of Viognier, this wine embodies the Eden Valley.
Good winter and early spring rains filled the soil profile, followed by a windy spring leading to uneven fruit set. During late spring and summer conditions remained dry and warm. On the 14th and 15th of February, the season changed and approximately 100mm of rain fell in just over 24 hours. This rainfall and the following cool weather slowed ripening with vintage progressing at an almost leisurely pace. A moderate crop has produced wines with varietal fruit flavours combined with some of the best tannin and natural acids we have seen.
Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
This wine will be drinking beautifully upon release although as expected from a Norman’s premium red, will develop well in the bottle with careful cellaring over the next 7+ years.
Draytons Family Oakey Creek Hunter Valley Heritage Red 2015
Matured for 11 months 4-year-old American barriques Stainless steel tank till bottling.
Yalumba The Strapper Barossa Valley GSM 2015
93 Points Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
The grenache influence is clear and attractive in this perfumed red filled with raspberries, dark plums, violet, cocoa and roasted nuts. It is juicy and silky with a flowing mouthfeel, backed by pristine fruit flavours and elegant spicy nuances.
91 Points Bob Campbell, The Real Review
Reasonably light, supple, fruity Barossa Valley red with raspberry, pepper, violet and wood smoke flavours. Very accessible Rhône-like wine - a versatile red that can be enjoyed with or without food.
91 Point Rated Natalie Maclean
Yalumba's The Strapper 2015 is a juicy and robust red wine blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) grapes. Well-priced. The Grenache shines in this wine with its ripe and juicy raspberry flavours, dark plums, dark chocolate and nutty finish.
Yalumba Triangle Block Eden Valley Shiraz Viognier 2014
92 Points James Halliday Wine Companion
"Excellent style of red. Excellent value. Fresh cherry-berry flavours just nudge into plum. Clove, mint and sweet spice notes. The 'hint of viognier' is noticeable but only just, and in a positive way. Just makes you want to settle in and drink it."
