Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz 2016

Produced from premium vineyards around South Australia, Penfolds Koonunga Hill is a great value Shiraz packed with flavours and well balanced. Enjoy now or suitable for short term cellaring.

Normans Chandlers Hill Shiraz 2016

Bright deep red with a purple rim. Complex aromas of plum fruits, black cherries with leafy notes and spearmint are complemented by traces of well-integrated oak. Beautifully soft, fruit driven wine showing typical shiraz richness reined in by the soft tannin finish.

Old Mundulla Vineyard Limestone Coast Shiraz 2016

Very deep ruby in colour. Aromas of Black cherry and plum. Palate displays rich flavours of ripe berries, plus a hint of mint and chocolate, balanced with chalky tannin and smooth lingering finish.

1838 Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016 Export Cork Mouth

Ink like black core with crimson red hues. Exhibits dark fruit aromas of blackberry and plum with a hint of molasses and spice. Luscious style with freshly cut fruit flavours of blood plum, blackcurrant and cherry. Complexity is derived from wellintegrated oak which provides a spicy kick whilst the fruit/acid/tannin balance is impeccable ensuring a smooth ride from start to finish.

The Derek Victorian Shiraz 2016

Deep purple to black colour. Intense and vibrant aroma of dark fruit and spice, beautifully varietal with ripe plum and blackberry with well integrated oak and chocolate hints coming through. The palate is fruit driven with dark fruit being the overwhelming hero here while oak and smooth tannins all working in unison. The complexity is derived from some spicy character whilst the finish is backed by a great acid back bone and the tannin structure will ensure the wine continues to drink well over the medium term.

Salena Estate Legacy Shiraz Cabernet 2014

This wine is a deep purple in colour. This blend is overflowing with the essence of forest berries fused with spice, and a touch of oak complexity. On the palate it is soft with subtle tannins and a lingering finish.

Technical:

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz 2016

Named after one of Penfolds’ Barossa Valley vineyards, Koonunga Hill is very much a reflection of the Penfolds winemaking style and philosophy. Since the first vintage in 1976, the brand has steadily built a reputation based on widespread acclaim.

This label is a multi-regional blend, made in the same vein as its world-famous brother Penfolds Grange, by careful selection of the best parcels of fruit from growers across South Australia to create a finished wine in a house style that is instantly recognisable to its fans.

Full flavoured but sophisticated, it shows plenty of ripe berry fruit flavor, and manages to stay smooth, juicy and delicious. It will suit those looking for a bit of extra oomph in their red wines but also want it to be very easily drinkable.

Normans Chandlers Hill Shiraz 2016

Normans is one of the oldest and most respected names in the Australian wine industry, established 1853 by Jesse Norman. The Normans business expanded from its humble beginnings in the suburbs of Adelaide to McLaren Vale and established the Chandler hill winery amongst some of Australia's most renowned vineyards. The Chandlers Hill Shiraz is a wine made keeping the traditional values of the Normans family winemaking philosophy, a rich fruit driven wine that is made to drink now and to be enjoyed.

Old Mundulla Vineyard Limestone Coast Shiraz 2016

Carefully selected grapes from the Limestone Coast, gently pressed and slowly fermented, aged with American oak for 12 months to allow the fruit aromas to develop and tannins to naturally soften.

1838 Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016 Export Cork Mouth

Fruit was sourced from select vineyards in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia from another incredible vintage. The different sites allowed us to pick the fruit over a 4-week period allowing each vineyard to develop differing characters to compliment each other and also allowed us at the winery to treat the parcels individually in small ferments with longer than usual skin contact, which is always ideal. The result is an outstanding wine with obvious time and care taken with it throughout the vinification process. This wine was fermented warm and received pump overs on a daily basis during fermentation. Aged in older second and third use oak to add another level of complexity without over powering the fruit.

The Derek Victorian Shiraz 2016

Sourced from premium vineyards across Victoria. The fruit was crushed then underwent cold macerating. Fermented in open top fermenters with regular pump over’s to extract both colour and tannin. Following another week of maceration the dry free run is drained to tank. The skins are then pressed and the pressings transferred to the same tank, the wine is then racked with select parcels going into barrel. The wine is aged in older oak hogsheads then bottled after 12 months maturation with minimal fining and filtration.

Salena Estate Legacy Shiraz Cabernet 2014

The objective was to make a wine that was easily approachable and drinkable at time of release.  Free run juice was used in order to avoid harshness and to maintain the clarity of the fruit character. The grapes were fermented in temperature controlled vessels for between 8 and 12 days. Just prior to the completion of ferment, separate parcels of wine were drained and pressed to a mixture of American oak barrels.

Overall, the 2014 vintage was challenging in several ways, in particular, by being such a dry season across the majority of regions we took fruit from. These dry conditions, coupled with warm to very hot weather and variable yield levels forced the growers to manage their blocks carefully, especially with regards to soil moisture and irrigation. Throughout the growing season, we saw several ups and downs in regards to ripening patterns and varying maturity levels across all varieties, with many of the red varieties all coming together at once, and almost everything on average ripening about 2 weeks earlier than in the previous season.

60% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
