Xanadu DJL Margaret River Chardonnay 2019
The growing season began with a late budburst after a relatively cold Winter with reasonable rainfall. The cool Spring which followed resulted in some uneven flowering and fruit set, and generally lower than average yields. We experienced a significant and unusual rain event midJanuary which was timely due to the later season. This was followed by some fine, mild weather to get vintage underway. There was a complete lack of Marri blossom leading up to and during harvest which meant that bird pressure was extreme, with netting absolutely vital. The cooler ripening conditions did result in amazing flavour intensity and acid retention in the whites. There was a minor rain event coupled with high humidity mid-March which presented some challenges requiring careful fruit selection, although this gave way to some beautiful weather right through till late April. All of the fruit for the 2019 DJL Chardonnay was Estate grown on our Stevens Road and Boodjidup Vineyards in the Wallcliffe subregion of Margaret River.
Xanadu Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
The growing season began with good, even budburst after average Winter rainfall. The mild Spring which followed ensured that there was good flowering and fruit set. A moderate start to Summer, with no heat extremes, set up the harvest well with white varieties offering great flavour intensity and bright acidity. There was an incredible display of Marri blossom (tagged as a once in a generation ‘mega-blossom’) which meant bird pressure was practically nonexistent whilst the whites were harvested. A minor rain event occurred in mid-March, which was followed by fine warm conditions which prevailed right through to middle of April allowing all red varieties to achieve great flavour and tannin ripeness. In summary 2018 will be remembered as an outstanding vintage!

We experienced a significant (and unusual) rain event midJanuary which was timely due to the later season, and this was followed by some fine, mild weather to get vintage underway. There was a complete lack of Marri blossom leading up to and during harvest which meant that bird pressure was extreme with netting absolutely vital. The cooler ripening conditions did result in amazing flavour intensity and acid retention in whites (chardonnay in particular). There was a minor rain event coupled with high humidity mid-March which presented some challenges requiring careful fruit selection, although this gave way to some beautiful weather right through til late April. In summary 2019 was a variable season, however ‘pressure makes diamonds’ as they say... and the highlights of the 2019 vintage reflect this quote perfectly.
Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
The growing season began with late budburst after a relatively cold, wet Winter. The mild Spring which followed ensured that there was good flowering and fruit set, in fact some yields needed to be addressed with crop thinning. Fine, mild conditions prevailed during Summer, which ended up being one of the coolest growing seasons in recent years. Harvest commenced late, at the end of February, with abundant Marri blossom keeping bird pressure very low whilst the whites were harvested. March was relatively wet with a significant rain event after most of the white fruit had been picked. Fortunately, the April that followed was glorious (the driest April since 1982 in fact) with fine weather and no heat extremes experienced at all. The extended ripening period allowing the reds to attain full physiological maturity and tannin ripeness with a wonderful sense of finesse. 75% of blend was Estate grown on our Boodjudup and Stevens Road vineyards in the Wallcliffe sub-region of Margaret River. The remainder was predominantly sourced from an established Margaret River vineyard in Wilyabrup.
Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Rose 2020
Average winter rainfall followed by a warm/dry spring set up an early start to the growing season. Fruit set was variable, resulting in lower yields across most varieties. The warm summer daytime temperatures combined with low yields saw harvest begin very early, at the end of January (one of our earliest ever) and all whites were harvested before the end of February. An incredible display of Marri blossom meant bird pressure was practically non-existent in the first half of vintage, and a short rain event after the white harvest offered some respite setting up the reds perfectly. Warm conditions continued throughout March, with all of the reds being harvested by the first week of April, our earliest ever harvest completion. In summary, 2020 will be remembered as an excellent vintage in Margaret River. All of the fruit for this wine was estate grown on our Boodjidup vineyard in the Wallcliffe subregion of Margaret River.

Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Shiraz 2016
Fermented with whole berries, aged for 14 months in French barriques (20% new) and some larger oak. Very much in the vein of previous vintages, this release provides a liberal helping of ripe red and black fruit seasoned with a good measure of cedary oak spice. It's soft enough to fit the drink now bill, but with a bit of extra personality.

"It's lean in chardonnay terms but it's long, elegant and well put together. In fact comparing it with the Exmoor Chardonnay of the same vintage it's worth the extra money. Whispers of sweet oak and a palate rushed with nectarine-like flavour. It's a tamed version of Margaret River Chardonnay but it's a satisfying one."
Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front
"Young and fairly lean but you’d imagine that it will develop well over the next few years. Lovely cool lines of stonefruit-accented flavour with whispers of sweet oak. It’s not quite there for now but give it some extra bottle time."

"Yet another wonderful cabernet from Xanadu. For the past few vintages, it’s been one super wine after another and this one, which captures the great 2018 vintage, is as good as any - and remember one of those won a Jimmy Watson Trophy. Elegance, control and power, I need say nothing more."

"92% cabernet sauvignon, 5% petit verdot, 3% malbec. 4 weeks on skins. 40% new French oak for 14 months. Olive paste, gum leaf and blackcurrant flavours flow slowly into cedar wood and vanilla cream, the latter more texture than overt flavour. It sits at the upper end of medium weight, the flavours cruising through the mouth with confident ease."

"Bright lemon colour. The nose shows white peaches, lemon thyme and seashells. The palate is driven by a combo of lemon and peach fruits, with tangents of bacon fat and oyster-brine. A fuzz of phenolics provides textural intrigue and gives ample carry into a long and crisp finish. Delicious in its restraint and control, big bang for buck quotient"

"This has such contained, fresh and bright citrus and stone-fruit aromas and flavors with very supple, lively freshness on the palate. So integrated and complete."
James Halliday Wine Companion
"What it offers is fruit freshness. It's low in oak and zippy as a result, its flavours of grapefruit, melon and dry pear racing through the palate. There isn't a lot of flavour here but what it does have is presented both well, and attractively. If it adds flesh as it rests in bottle over the next year or so it'll be better again."
Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
"The wine range formerly known as Next Of Kin. Low in oak and low-ish in flavour but it zips through the palate in more-or-less attractive style. It’s certainly fresh"
Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

"Very good release. It tastes authentically of Margaret River and of cabernet. It's curranty, gravelly, smooth-skinned and fresh. There's a creaminess to its texture and a gum leaf lift to its aromatics. It's a wine that really improves as it rests in the glass, not that each glass lasts too long. There's value in spades to be had here."

"Brimming with cherry, violet and cherry aromas, earthy spice and textured, smooth oak to the palate."

"Coral pink hue, intense aromas of citrus and red fruits with sweet pastry. Dry, savoury and spicy, Provençal in style, flavours of grapefruit and dried herbs with a medium body, zippy acidity and a warm finish"

"Another cracking good wine from Glenn Goodall, whose signature of balance and completeness is all over this terrific entry-level blend. Bright and energetic in the mouth. This is what you want at this price point."
92 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"Snappy, concentrated, flavoursome little number. Margaret River really nails this varietal mix and if there's any confusion as to what characters make it so successful, then you can look to this for answers. Snowpea, gooseberry, white pepper, lemon pith, brine and a pretty jasmine floral that floats through the finish. Uncomplicated, refreshing summer drinking. All there, tick."
Huon Hooke - The Real Review
"Very pale, water-clear colour. The bouquet is very green and crushed-herby, snowpeas and sliced green capsicum. The wine is very light, simple, even bland, although it does have intensity. The finish is dry and balanced, and the wine is very quaffable and leaves the palate refreshed, even if the flavour is far from captivating. More time in bottle could fill it out a bit. It's good at its price."
Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Shiraz 2016
91 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Deep, bold, bright red/purple colour, the bouquet clean, fresh and fragrant with some cassis notes that suggest a touch of cabernet in the mix. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firm, with slightly edgy tannins which are nevertheless in balance. Good length, firm cleansing tannin finish, and evident cellaring potential. An excellent wine for the price."
